Snakepit was, unfortunately, a disaster on many levels. Proof that a proper business plan is essential, rather than rushing at an opportunity with the pressure of time. Snakepit was partially Birdcage in the city but it was underfunded and the concept of Birdcage translated poorly to the space.

I had worked in St Kilda for many years in restaurants and bars prior to Birdcage and knew the market thoroughly. Queen Street Melbourne was/is a much more conservative environment and even though it had heaps of publicity, Snakepit was a failure.
